Chronic sinusitis is painful and distracting. Symptoms can follow you through the years and it seems as though nothing ever treats the problem. If you feel as though you are continuously suffering with chronic sinusitis, then a balloon sinuplasty procedure might be the best solution for your sinuses.

What Is Chronic Sinusitis:

Sinusitis is an infection or inflammation of the sinuses. The infection can cause you to experience the following symptoms: stuffy nose, pressure in the face, nasal drainage, or loss of smell. An infection that lasts for 12 weeks or longer is chronic sinusitis. Treatment for chronic sinusitis can be difficult. Treatment options can range from antibiotics, nasal steroid sprays, and saltwater rinses. Which treatment option is best for you depends on what the underlying cause of infection is. When treatments are continually not solving the issue, it might be time to consider sinus surgery or the balloon sinuplasty procedure.

What Is Balloon Sinuplasty?

The balloon sinuplasty is a procedure that opens the blocked passageways to your sinuses. This procedure is minimally invasive and has a shorter recovery time than other sinus surgeries or procedures. To perform the procedure the patient is in the office, awake but comfortably sedated. A thin endoscope is inserted into the nose without disrupting the surrounding bone and tissue. A small balloon is then gently inflated to 5 millimeters to gently widen blocked passageways. This allows the sinuses to properly drain.
