The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America recently released their annual report on the allergy capitals of the United States. This report includes a list of the most challenging cities to live in with seasonal allergies, as well as the least challenging cities. There are multiple South Carolina cities that appear on the lists, however they are all on the challenging side.

Most Challenging Cities

The 2022 top 10 most challenging cities to live in with seasonal allergies are:

  1. Scranton, PA
  2. Wichita, KS
  3. McAllen, TX
  4. Richmond, VA
  5. San Antonio, TX
  6. Oklahoma City, OK
  7. Hartford, CT
  8. Buffalo, NY
  9. New Haven, CT
  10. Albany, NY

South Carolina has multiple cities on the list for most challenging cities, however none are in the top 10! Columbia is #14, Greenville is #25, and our wonderful home of Charleston is #31. This means that it can be fairly difficult for those with seasonal allergies to go without symptoms during allergy season.

  1. Fresno, CA
  2. Phoenix, AZ
  3. Provo, UT
  4. Denver, CO
  5. Sacramento, CA
  6. Portland, OR
  7. San Jose, CA
  8. San Francisco, CA
  9. Durham, NC
  10. Seattle, WA

For more information on these lists, you can visit the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America’s website.

Unfortunately, South Carolina does not have any cities listed in the top cities that are least challenging for those with seasonal allergies. You do not have to pack up and move to one of these cities. Working with an allergist can help you find relief in the pollen ridden state.

Those who are continuously sneezing, wheezing, dealing with a stuffy or runny nose, and other allergy related symptoms should visit with an allergist. An allergist can help by performing an allergy test and finding treatment options that work best for you.
